How to Install the Audio Driver After Re-installing the Operating System in Dell

Posted on 14:35 by Unknown

If there is no audio after reinstalling Windows it is usually because the drivers were not installed in the correct order. Often you will get an error message, because the Notebook System Software and chipset drivers were not installed correctly and the audio chip on the motherboard is not recognized. In this situation "usually" a fresh install of the OS is not required, just re-installing the NSS and chipset correctly. If that doesn't work then a full re-installation may be necessary. [Note that if you re-installed the operating system by using "PC Restore" or "
http://www.techbuddiesonline.com/Pages/Dell_support.aspxFactory Image Restore" you do not need to re-install the drivers because they were included in the restoration image. This is the best method of re-installing the OS because you avoid all of the problems that can occur when installing the drivers.]

and use the dropdown box there to select your Operating System. Install in this order:

a.
Dell Notebook System Software (on your downloads page expand the System Utilities category). Download, install and restart.

b. Intel Mobile Chipset software (expand the Chipset category). Download, install and restart.

(Models with AMD cpu use the AMD processor driver.)

c. Install the drivers including the audio driver (expand the Audio category).
http://www.techbuddiesonline.com/Pages/Dell_support.aspx'
Install only the Crystal, Sigmatel, IDT, or Realtec. If there is any Creative Labs or Audigy software in your Audio category do not install it before the regular audio drivers are installed and working properly. An attempt to install the Creative Labs software before the audio driver can cause Windows Audio Service to permanently shut down.

Notes:

On the downloads page you will see the terms "optional" and "recommended". These terms are guidelines for when you are updating a driver. They do not apply to the situation described here when you are installing drivers after a fresh Windows installation, so ignore them for now.

Windows XP SP1 should be upgraded to SP2 before installing the audio driver, but SP 2 may require that the UAA hotfix be installed. Get it from . Windows XP SP3 already has the UAA hotfix.

If there are problems with the downloaded drivers and if you have the original OS reinstallation disc & the drivers utility disc, I would install from those instead of downloading, because those will have the same configuration combination that is known to work on your computer (the same configuration that was on the computer when it was new) then after the audio is working you can go online to update the
drivers if necessary.

How to Install Dell PC Audio Drivers

Posted on 13:08 by Unknown

When a computer fails to produce any sound, it is usually due to a missing driver. Drivers are instructions that tell the processor and operating system how to use a specific device built into the motherboard or installed on a PCI slot. Without the proper driver, the computer cannot use the sound card to produce sound. You can locate and reinstall the driver for any Dell brand PC

Instructions

Note the make and model of your Dell PC desktop or laptop. Look for this information on the front of your machine and on any label on the back of the tower or bottom of the laptop. Find your Dell Service Tag number as well. Dell produces dozens of different configurations for each main model, so you must know your specific configuration model number.
Go to the Dell Support website. Do a search for your specific make and model. Search for the driver packages for your computer. You can allow the Dell Support site to download and install a Driver Scan tool on some models. The scanning tool will search your computer's components and produce a listing of drivers for your machine. You can also look for the driver collections without this tool.
Find the Dell drivers listed for your on board sound card. Read the labeling carefully on these drivers. "Close" is not good enough in most cases. Each driver version is different in some significant way.
Click on the "download now" button for the right driver. When the program asks you whether you want to "Save" or "Run" the file, choose "Save." Save the file to your C:\Dell or C:\Drivers directory.
Open the driver file and click on "Run" or "Install." Some drivers will automatically deploy after you have downloaded them to your machine. If during this deployment, your computer discovers the driver is not correct for your sound card, you will see a message to this effect: "Device Not Found," or "Incorrect Driver." Go back to the Dell Support site and try another driver.
Go to "Start" and "Run." Type "dxdiag" into the Run box. When the diagnostic screen opens, go to the "Sound" tab. You should see your sound card listed if the driver was installed correctly. Click on "Test" to make sure your sound card is now operating. Check to make sure any external speakers are plugged into the green ports on the back of your tower; they are "powered," so make sure they are turned on. If the sound test fails, or the sound card is not listed, you still do not have the correct drivers. Return to the Dell Support site and try again.
Download a free program called "Everest Home Edition," if you are having trouble finding the correct driver. Everest will identify your sound card and might be able to provide you with a direct link to a driver download site.
Visit driverguide.com if you are still having troubles. Do a search in their listings for the sound card driver you need. Driverguide.com is a free service but you will be exposed to advertising.
Reboot after your sound driver passes the dxdiag test. Rebooting also works to finish the installation of sound drivers; if you think you have the right driver, but there is still no sound, try rebooting.

Navigate to the quick help categories such as ‘Additional Resources’, ‘Top Solutions’ and ‘Other Support Tools’ to get ready-to-follow solutions, and fix most of the computer problems on your own. Under software support you need to select the operating system first, and then you can explore the related pages, and your topics. For example on selecting Windows 7 you can get help for upgrading your machine to Windows 7 and fix bunch of problems associated with a Windows 7-based system.

You may get technical support for Dell computerlaptop and printer from any online computer support portal. Usually, they cater support for all Windows operating systems for life-time, unlike the Microsoft Supportwhich usually ceases after some restricted time. Using their video-tutorial and self-help columns you can fix many of the software issues on your own. To help you with your queries they do have a separate tab, “Frequently Asked Questions”, which can be interesting for the novices. You can fix system errors, blue-screen error, driver update problem, system crash, Windows Start-up, malware issues and more with the effective use of their benevolent databases. Setting-up and configuring e-mail, and troubleshooting of Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player, Windows Mail and other programs are quite easy if you dare to take the charge.

Garner new products’ information, read their reviews, product comparison and details of emerging technologies, and the latest news and more right at one place.

However, if you are not comfortable with Windows troubleshooting, router set-up and configuration or other you can order a support via phone or e-mail. Drop your request and the concerned technical group will be taking care of the problems within a stipulated time-frame. Their technicians may ask for the remote access of the system, and may reinstall and activate Windows or do other desired troubleshooting to leave behind your Dell system running smooth and in an error-free state. They can also help you with data recovery and system restore under extreme conditions.
